This year, HDB committed to complete and deliver 13,600 new flats to Singaporeans. We are on track to do so.
In June, I witnessed the completion of Treegrove @ Woodlands. At that time 6,000 new flats were completed.
Today, I witnessed the handover of keys from the main contractor to HDB at Floral Spring @ Yishun. This project marks the completion of 9,000 HDB flats this year – 50 percent more than in June.
More than just meeting numbers, HDB is also delivering quality flats to home buyers. Floral Spring @ Yishun is a good example. This housing project is located in an infill site, surrounded by existing residential developments. Together, HDB and the contractors completed this project on schedule while minimising inconvenience to surrounding residents.
Despite the site challenges, they achieved a high Construction Quality Assessment System (CONQUAS) score of 88 for this project. This is comparable to those achieved by condominiums.
I met Mr Sheik Ismail (30), who had just received the keys to his 4R flat at Floral Spring. He was delighted to receive his keys earlier than expected. He and his wife were living apart while they were waiting for their new flat. Now they can move into their new home together. In fact, Mrs Ismail just delivered their first child yesterday; so it is double happiness for the family.
Mr Ismail added that his parents live in an HDB block opposite, while his sister is in another HDB block also close by. So the three families are all within walking distance of one another.
We will press on to deliver more flats to young couples like Mr Ismail, so that they can start their family soon. Next year, HDB targets to complete and deliver more than 28,000 new flats, double this year’s record.
